Leslie had talked to Pablo a while before our trip about visiting him in Mexico City, but then she hadn't heard from him as it got close to our departure. Since we hadn't gotten in contact with Pablo about the details of our flight and when we got in and such, Leslie made alternate plans to take the metro from the airport to the bus hub and just catch a bus to Oaxaca. Leslie figured out what busses to catch where and when and we were all sorted to just get out of Mexico City and on our way south. Then, Thursday morning, six hours before we were to fly out of Portland, Leslie got a message from Pablo on Facebook saying he was planning on picking us up and asked for our flight info! So Leslie responded on Facebook as well as sent him a more detailed email and we were on our way.
By the time we boarded the plane in Portland we hadn't heard back from Pablo yet, confirming the time and to know how to find him when we arrived. We had a little less than an hour in Phoenix and we grabbed a bite to eat and made it to our gate a few minutes before preboard. The internet connection in the airport was painfully slow and in the 20-30min before we boarded we were able to find out that Leslie had accidentally emailed the wrong Pablo who had responded to tell her that, but we hadn't managed to get on Facebook to see if the correct Pablo had responded there.
Three hours later when we landed we still weren't sure if Pablo had gotten the time and if or where he'd meet us...
So, as we cleared customs and headed out the exit we were unfortunately not greeted by Pablo and all the wi-fi we could pick up were locked. We waited around for a few minutes and tried to figure out what to do next, it was midnight and we were tired. We discussed taking our alternate plan, but if Pablo was planning on picking us up, that would leave him expecting us with no way of notifying him that we'd changed plans. We walked out to the exit and realized we'd never find him outside! We turned around to find a phone to try calling Pablo. Two steps in the door and we ran into Pablo and his wife Teresa just getting off the elevator from the parking garage! So our arrival
ended smoothly and well.
